Discover Nacula: Gateway to Fiji’s Hidden Biodiversity Paradise!

Nestled like a precious jewel between emerald rolling hills and the crystalline waters of Beqalevu Lagoon, the enchanting village of Nacula offers nature lovers an authentic window into one of the Pacific’s most extraordinary ecosystems. This intimate iTaukei community serves as your basecamp for exploring the legendary Natewa Peninsula—a biodiversity hotspot that’s home to species found nowhere else on Earth!

From Nacula’s village homes, gaze across the shimmering lagoon to the affectionately named Beqa Levu (“Big Beqa”)—a tiny island sanctuary that guards the entrance to the mighty Natewa Bay, the largest bay in the entire South Pacific. But the real adventure begins when you follow the ancient mountain track that winds dramatically upward through a living tapestry of endemic flora, climbing 375 meters into the mystical cloud forests of Lovowaqa.

Here, in this pristine mountain sanctuary, the rare Natewa Silktail flits through ancient dakua trees, while the newly discovered Natewa Swallowtail—the first new swallowtail species found globally in over 50 years—dances among native blossoms. Every step reveals another marvel: endemic Orange Doves calling from the canopy, the flash of Red-Shining Parrots, and over 80 tree species creating one of Fiji’s most intact forest ecosystems.

For birdwatchers, this is hallowed ground—an Important Bird Area where dawn choruses feature species that exist nowhere else on our planet. For students and researchers, Nacula offers unparalleled access to study evolution in action within a contained island ecosystem. And for eco-adventurers, it’s a chance to contribute directly to conservation while experiencing the warmth of iTaukei hospitality in one of the world’s last great wilderness frontiers.

Welcome to Nacula—where every sunrise reveals another secret of the natural world!
